LIFE WITH ARTIFICIALS

Introducing the 18th Sustainable Development Goal

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals are the blueprint for achieving a better and more sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we face, including those related to poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace, and justice. The 17 Global Goals are all interconnected, and to leave no one behind, we must achieve them all by 2030.

The Global Goals, in their current state, overlook the presence and role of next-generation technologies in our everyday lives. Both with regards to how advances in artificial intelligence, robotics, and biotechnology can be harvested to achieve the other 17 SDGs, as well as the various dilemmas that arise along with their growing presence. This is why the MindFuture Foundation has proposed the development of the 18th Global Goal, “Life with Artificials”

In order to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, it is crucial that we utilize these next-generation technologies. The 18th Global Goal, Life with Artificials, focuses upon how our future lives will be entangled with artificials and our need to adapt and educate people to co-exist and work together with them.

Bringing artists, software developers, tech pioneers and researchers together to investigate the ethical and existential dilemmas next-generation artificial intelligence technology might pose.

Targets

Everybody can help make sure we meet the 18th Global Goal. Use these targets to create action to empower people to live sustainable lives with artificials.

18.1 PROMOTE HUMAN-CENTRED ARTIFICIALS

Promote the development of Artificials for the common good of humanity, with a respect for human rights, diversity, and the autonomy of individuals, along with their implementation as a means of human empowerment.

18.2 ENSURE ETHICAL USE OF ARTIFICIALS

Ensure that all nations, companies, developers, and researchers commit to fostering the highest possible standards of practice working with Artificials and consider the ethical implications of their work.

18.3 ENHANCE AWARENESS OF ARTIFICIALS

By 2025, ensure Artificials are easily identifiable when in situations that have a significant impact on human lives.

18.4 STRENGTHEN THE SHARING OF KNOWLEDGE

Ensure that advances made in next-generation technologies are publicly accessible, fostering their inclusive and decentralized development.

18.5 SECURE RIGHTS TO DATA PRIVACY

Ensure that data acquired from Artificials is protected as to prevent its use in unfair discrimination against individuals, communities, or groups.

18.6 ENSURE TRANSPARENCY IN ARTIFICIALS

Adopt measures to ensure Artificials are transparent; ensuring it is always possible to discover how and why Artificials make decisions or operate the way they do.

18.7 SUPPORT THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE OTHER SDGs

Implement Artificials to make the 17 other SDG more achievable.

18.A ESTABLISH A CODE OF CONDUCT FOR ARTIFICIALS

By 2025, implement both a legal Code of Conduct for Artificials and an oath of ethics for developers, similar to the Hippocratic Oath.

18.B MAINTAIN CONTROL OVER ARTIFICIALS

Ensure individuals and organizations are held legally accountable for their Artificials and any repercussions that arise as a result of their creation.

18.C SECURE A STABLE ENTANGLEMENT BETWEEN HUMANS AND ARTIFICIALS

Significantly enhance education about Artificials to ensure the mental, emotional, and economic stability of all humans as our lives become increasingly entangled with next-generation technologies.
